Code Wars ho!

Code Wars is DPS Vasant Kunj’s computer symposium which will take place on the 18th and 19th of December. The rules and various events are as follows:-

RULES

1. Quiz
Eligibility Open
2 teams per school :: 3 participants per team
If the first four letter word that comes to your mind is GIMP, then this event is for you! Trivia, tech and all that blah…a written preliminary round followed by a fight to the death between 6 teams that qualify.
The questions will involve trivia, history, current events, hardware and software concepts, networking concepts, who’s who, a graphical round, and anything we see fit to on a quiz.

2. Programming
Eligibility Open
1 team per school :: 2 participants per team
If your idol is ‘The Architect’, welcome to the cosmos of programming.
This contest involves logic, logic and more logic, and a little bit of coding also. There will be 4-5 questions to be completed within two hours. Participants have to code into Turbo C++. The evaluation will be attempt-based and time-based.

3. Crossword
Eligibility Open
2 teams per school :: 2 participants per team
What is black and white all over? Come only if you answered ‘Tux!’ Here we test the participants’ brain cells, wit and their creativity in this event. There will be a written elimination round followed by a final round on stage. The clues will be cryptic!!!

4. Group Discussion
Eligibility Open
1 participant per school
A regular (?!) group discussion. The topics:
• Online (in)security
• Violence in computer games: perverting teenagers
• Casting a net of sponsorship on the Net
… WILL NOT BE SELECTED. The topic will be given on the spot.

5. Gaming
Eligibility Open
1 participant per school
Our sources have revealed that there will be three rounds with ‘Hortar Hayhem’ in elimination round. Statistics reveal that our sources are 97.73% accurate. Note that gaming is not always about probability. Finalists will be selected from a grueling preliminary.

6. N-Crypton

The N-Crypton. Go figure…

7. Web Design
Eligibility Open
1 team per school :: 2 participants per team
Are you Dr Octavius’ arch nemesis? Get ready to spin a web!
The topic will be given on the spot along with further details. Participants will be given Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Macromedia Studio. The website will be judged on style, presentation, loading time, creativity and imagination.

8. Digital Imaging
Eligibility Open
1 participant per school
Let the imagination go wild to design an image par excellence. The topic will be given on the spot. This event traditionally sees some of the best use of image editing software in designing and retouching images, and creating special effects on them. The software given will be Photoshop CS.

9. Media Magnate
Eligibility Open
1 team per school :: 2 participants per team
Do you see the world through a spyglass? The mystery shall unfold on the web…

10. Animathlon
Eligibility Open
1 team per school :: 2 participants per team
Do you like square pants? Then be there to be the squared! And remember, we want something FLASHy in this. Topic will be given on the spot.

11. Techathlon

Yeah, we’re into Olympic mode. It’s a fact that technology in the real world is about teamwork more than individual skill. So entire teams are given tasks to perform, which may involve any or all of the skills needed for the events listed above.

• To win the Overall Trophy a school must participate in ATLEAST 8 events.

General Rules:

1. It should be made sure that participants DO NOT register for events that may possibly clash.

2. The schools must send one of their representatives during the registration time each day to register for the events of that day.

3. Judges’ decisions are final in all events. Rules are subject to change. Please visit our site for any such changes.

Please Note:

Software/Installation/Presentation CD’s (no floppy please) for events Software Display and Multimedia Presentation, must be submitted on the First Day i.e. on Thursday, 21st December 2006, at the time of Registration along with well-formatted documentation and/or source-code.
